Unfortunately, there are a few Puppy Farmers
now exploiting our beautiful breed. Producing sub-standard, unhealthy and ill-tempered dogs and selling these animals to unsuitable
homes.
Subsequently many of these poor dogs end up in
rescue.
To avoid potential owners funding these puppy
farmers, below is some information to assist with finding good REPUTABLE Alaskan Malamute Breeders.....
Puppies should be Kennel Club registered and
certificates available. Do not consider any "alternative registration" such as DLRC etc
Dam should be over 2 yrs of age and Sire over
18 months.
It is important that you meet Dam and if
possible, Sire too, and not through a chainlink fence either. You should be able to get your hands on the dogs and they should
be happy to meet you.
Bitch should have no more than 4 litters in her
lifetime.
Avoid any breeders offering unregistered, cheap
or crossbred litters.
Sire & Dam should both be Hipscored and Eyetested
with good results.
Ask to see Certificates as evidence of this.
Its always a good
idea to ask if the breeder is a Member of The Alaskan Malamute Club of the UK. There is only one Mal Breed Club in the UK
designed to promote and protect the dogs. If they're not members, why not?
